The Past

An Ordinary Man

I am no superstar nor am I trying to make out I am.  I am just a boring accountant who loves to hit the open road and play golf.

I do have one claim to fame.  I won a club champsionship at Mt Walker Golf Club in 1996 when I ws working in Narembeen for BankWest.

Then I was off 14 or 16 handicap and playing well.  The stars all aligned that year - Mt Walker didn't have many members, the good golfers couldn't play and I was just hitting the ball well.  Unfortunately I have no proof.  The Honour Board at the Club was never updated and I have since thrown away the scorecard from that memorable day.

I am not a member of a club, I don't have a handicap and I play when I can - for fun!

I genuinely love playing country golf courses - to see how the locals have laid out a course with what terrain they have to work with.  To find that hole that makes you go "wow" - what a masterpiece.

And if I am honest - to get the holy grail - a hole in one!

25 Years Ago/100 Courses

I am 50 now, but 25 years ago it was all about golf.  My mate and I would take a weeks (sometimes two) annual leave and play 36 holes a day (once we did 45 in a day!).  We soon notched up more than 100 country courses.

I always wanted to write a book about the courses I played.  Back then there were no Blogs and Internet Site were clunky.

I haven't played much golf between then and now and upon turning 50 I reflected on why I don't do the things I used to? Time and Priorities.

Now the kids have grown and left home, I want to fulfill some things I always wanted to do - this is one thing that springs to mind.

So from today - 28 July 2018 - I am back to tick off those courses I played all those years go (and discover some new ones).

Hopefully we can get to 100+ again.
